Fitzpatrick skin typing: applications in dermatology.
نویسنده
چکیده
Fitzpatrick skin phototypes were developed by Thomas B. Fitzpatrick in 1975 based on a persons skin color and responses to sun exposure in terms of degree of burning and tanning. Though subjective, Fitzpatrick skin typing has a proven diagnostic and therapeutic value. It has been most commonly used to analyze the sun sensitivity in population-based and case-control studies related to cause of skin cancer, exposure to UV radiation, tanning, and protective behaviors.[1,2] The Fitzpatrick scale has been applied as a standard for self-assessment of sun sensitivity in self-administered questionnaires and has been shown to correlate well for white skin as compared to brown skin.[3] Skin phototype typing is widely used for estimating UV, PUVA, and laser treatment doses.

Background and aim: Solar lentigines are common sun-induced benign melanocytic proliferations that present a significant cosmetic problem for many middle- aged and elderly patients. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of cryotherapy in comparison to trichloroacetic acid (TCA) 33% on solar lentigines on the back of the hands (SLBH).Materials and Methods:...

متن کاملThe distribution of melanin in skin determined in vivo.
BACKGROUND There continues to be a need for objective, noninvasive methods to measure melanin concentration in vivo in human skin, independent of the confounding chromophore, haemoglobin. Existing methods are limited by a lack of specificity and inability to resolve the spatial distribution of these chromophores. OBJECTIVES To validate and calibrate the measurement of eumelanin in vivo using ...
